Eel River Valley Railroad News and Annonucements
Humboldt County Fairgrounds June 18, 2004

This is a reminder of our meeting that will be held July 22nd at the club room at 7:30 PM. This meeting is the most important meeting of the yr. and if you can at all make it, please do. We will be doing the sign ups for the fair and giving out passes and parking permits so it's important that you be there is you can. From what feedback I have gotten we should have a great crew this yr. to help us. If you are working on a project please do all you can do to have it competed by this date. I know the fair is still two mos. off but it will be here a lot sooner that you may think. Also on the 22nd of July please bring some stuff to run so that we can test out all the new track work and you can test your equipment.

Tomorrow night Heather Clark our member from Portland Or. will be with us to work on the rest of the track work in Eureka and may one or two other things. We are also planning to get to the room about mid morning on Sat. work though the day and if there is enough interest have dinner at the Ferndale Pizza factory and maybe return to work some more that night. So come by and say hello if you can and join us if you have something you would like to work on.

Thanks for everyones hard work and support,

Just a reminder of our meeting at 7:30 PM on Thursday July 10th in our club room at the fairgrounds in Ferndale. Please be sure to make it if at all possible. One of the main reason is that I will be bringing 2 doz. donuts and Don Nelson has promised to only eat half a dozen of them so I don't need to be tempted to go off my diet because these wonderful things need to be eaten. So I am in need of your help. On a serious side we do need to get everyone signed up and it is important to do this early. On another note we will not have the bridge at Loleta finished in time for this meeting as I run into a problem or two that needs to be taken care of before I can mount it. Eureka to Loleta will run but you will not be able to get across to the wye at Fortuna. We will get this done by fair time as we are just about there right now. However bring your equipment to test run and we can do some running at that time.

To all members and friends of the RED and the Eel River Valley Model Railroaders:

We have just learned and am delighted to announce that the guest speaker and presenter at the up coming RED picnic (banquet) Aug. 1st - Aug 3rd will be Mr. Don Olsen of Catenary Video Productions. He has agreed to bring up to the north end of the NWP (Fortuna) film of the NWP that has not yet be put out in a commercial video and for the most part never before seen by the general Public. Some of the subject matter will include a ride in the RDC car from Eureka to Willits, a fan trip on the north end of the NWP, and film of the operations of the Blackpoint bridge. If you were at winter rail last year Don did a presentation in the evening on the NWP which I believe was a real hit of the meeting. For those who are not aware of this upcoming event, it is the annual summer picnic of the Redwood Empire Div. of the Pacific Coast Reg. of the NMRA. This year it is sponsored by the Eel River Valley Model Railroaders in Ferndale Calif. We have a full schedule planned of layout tours, a modeling clinic, Fri. night at the movies, breakfast at an old loggers cookhouse, and now a banquet in the Victorian Village of Ferndale with a wonderful speaker/presenter. We have a very good rate at the local Best Western Motel overlooking the Eel River in Fortuna, Ca. at $75.00 per. night but that rate only holds until july 1st. If you are planning on coming, and we hope you will, I will need to hear form you if you are planning to coming to the banquet on Sat. night and wish to join us at the old loggers dining hall the Samoa Cookhouse for breakfast. We look forward in having members and nonmember a like joining with us which I am sure will prove to be truly a good time in the redwoods for a summer picnic.

This Fri. Oct. 11th we will be having a meeting of the Eel River Valley Model Railroaders at the fair grounds at 7:30 PM. We should have a short business meeting and then run some trains. Heather Clark will be bringing some passenger car kits and freight car kits that she has just gotten from an estate sell. So plan on being with us this Fri. We are also planning to have a workday this Sat. the 12th for anyone wishing to come down and work on their modules or the room. See you all there on Fri. Also if anyone has a presentation he would like to make to the group in the future please let me know by e-mail or at the meeting. One last thing, I do trust the you have all seen our new web-page. If not you can go to www.eelrivervalleyrr.org. I trust that you will enjoy it. If so be sure to tell Jeff how much.

I will need to reschedule the meeting which had been planned for next Fri. night Oct. the 4th and the workday of Sac. Oct. the 5th. We will have this meeting on the 11th at 7:30 and the workday on the 12th. Please bring an engine or equipment or both to run and another thing for show and tell you might have. We still need to talk about this years fair run, the good and the bad, and what we need to be doing in the future. If anyone would like to come down tomorrow night or any other time between now and the meeting the stanchions can be taken down and the skirt rolled up. Let me know if you can make it on the 11th so I will know how many donuts to bring. If anyone has an idea for a meeting, like clinics, movies, etc. and would like to put it together I would be more than happy to have you do it. So let me hear from all of you if you can make it.

Heather just called and says she has a # of SP LT Wt. passenger cars from Wright and some Walthers HW Santa Fe cars and she said she would bring them if anyone was interested. So let me know if you have an interest.
